Alexander Keith’s Brewery

Labatt’s operations in the Maritimes are steeped in tradition, tracing back to 1820, when brewmaster Alexander Keith began brewing operations in Halifax. Following a partnership with the Oland family, the brewery became stewards of the legendary Alexander Keith’s family of beers in 1928 when the founder’s granddaughter sold the family business to John Oland.

Labatt acquired Oland’s & Sons in 1971 and renamed it Oland Brewery. Introduced to the Ontario market in 1996, Alexander Keith’s India Pale Ale is now Canada’s #1 domestic specialty brand. In 2000, the original Alexander Keith’s Nova Scotia Brewery was restored in its original location in downtown Halifax. The project included the recreation of a nineteenth-century general store, brew house and tavern.
