| Atlantic Region – home of Alexander Keith’s
| • |
Labatt is truly a national brewer, and its coast-to-coast operations include its brewery in St. John's, Newfoundland. |
| • |
Labatt’s Halifax, Nova Scotia, Oland Brewery brews some of Atlantic Canada's best-know favourites such as Keith's IPA, Keith's Red, Oland Export and Oland Schooner, named after the famous sailing vessel the Bluenose II. |
| • |
The Atlantic Region also serves as home to the award winning Alexander Keith's Nova Scotia Brewery, one of the oldest working breweries in North America. Guided by actors dressed in period costumes, visitors can learn about the beer, the brewery and life in Halifax in 1863. After an informative tour through the brewery, visitors are led to the Stag's Head Tavern where they listen to toe tapping music, play games and sample some of Keith's fine ale. It is a perfect experience for those who want a real taste of Nova Scotian hospitality. Since re-opening its doors in June 2000, the brewery has welcomed hundreds of thousands of visitors from Canada and countries around the world. |
History/Highlights
| • |
Labatt's St. John's Brewery was founded in 1933 by the Brownrigg family. Three decades later, the brewery was purchased by Labatt and subsequently redeveloped. This enabled local brewing of some of Canada's most popular beers, including Labatt Blue, as well as local favourites such as Jockey Club, developed in the mid 1930's by then brewmaster Hans Schneider. |
| • |
The Oland Brewery has been operating for over 135 years. First brewed in their Dartmouth home, the Oland's special ales were the beginning of a family tradition that would make the Oland name synonymous with extraordinary beer. From the Halifax explosion of 1917 to the dry years of Prohibition and through two World Wars, the Oland family remained committed to brewing fine beers. In 1928, the Oland Brewery became stewards of the legendary Alexander Keith's family of beers when the founder's granddaughter sold the family business to the Oland family. |
