The brewery has produced a number of firsts, including the first Canadian-brewed American beer (Budweiser in 1980) and the first packaged draft in Canada (Labatt Genuine Draft in 1992). |

When Labatt introduced its Pilsner Lager in Manitoba in the late 1950s, the community nicknamed the beer "Blue" for the color of its label and for Labatt's support of Winnipeg's Canadian Football League (CFL) franchise – the Blue Bombers. The nickname stuck and by 1980, Labatt Blue became a well-recognized brand in Canada.
