| Environmental & Safety Performance
Labatt believes that sustainability means meeting today’s needs without compromising the needs of future generations. To achieve this, Labatt uses a variety of tools, including adherence to clearly defined policies, definitions, and standards of ES objectives; the coordination of zone ES managers; stringent ES audit policies; active participation in process and product-development activities; ES data gathering; and external and internal reporting and global benchmarking.
These tools allow Labatt to fully understand ES and the surrounding processes in order to minimize or eliminate the environmental impact of its products, services and operations.
By-Products & Waste Management
Packaging Waste Reduction Labatt is committed to continuously working toward minimizing wastage and seeking new, more sustainable disposal options for its waste. Labatt already achieves more than a 95 per cent recapture rate of the total weight of all consumer packaging and associated materials. Since 1988, Labatt has reduced its total operating waste by 66 per cent overall, with select breweries achieving up to a 95 per cent reduction. Labatt goes to great measures to ensure that cardboard is separated for its return to paper suppliers for recycling. As a standard practice, all Labatt packaging contains the maximum allowable amount of recycled content. A 20 per cent reduction in packaging material has been achieved in Ontario, Quebec and Nova Scotia.
