| Filtering:
Once aging is complete and the beer’s flavour has matured, the liquid is filtered to produce brilliant clarity. The alcohol and carbonation levels are also adjusted to uniform levels. This process produces a clear, smooth-tasting liquid and ensures freshness for months after packaging.
Packaging:
After filtering, the beer is stored in tanks, ready for racking in kegs or for packaging in bottles or cans.
Bottle Washing:
More than 98 per cent of Labatt bottles are returned to the brewery for refilling. Bottles are refilled between 15 and 20 times. Before being filled, all returned bottles go through the bottle washer, a system that cleans, rinses and sterilizes with a combination of high temperature, cleansing solution and water. After washing, each bottle is inspected by specialized instruments for cleanliness. Bottles that don't meet Labatt's high standards for reuse are rejected, crushed and shipped to reprocessing plants where they are recycled back into bottles.
Filler:
After washing, the bottles travel to a rotary filler, which can achieve a speed of 1,200 bottles per minute. The process at this stage causes the beer to foam slightly as it leaves the filler, ensuring that any remaining air is pushed out prior to crowning.
