Making a Difference Since before Canada was Canada

Labatt has been making a difference in Canadian communities since 1847, when our founder, John Kinder Labatt, donated 1000 pounds of flour to his fellow London, Ontario citizens in the midst of a devastating economic downturn in 1859. From that point on, Labatt strives to live up to the values of our founder, helping communities in need, supporting charitable events and organizations, and encouraging employee involvement in communities coast to coast. Today, being part of communities across Canada is still at the heart of who we are. Through initiatives like our Disaster Relief Program, our Better Together registered charity, our responsible drinking and moderation campaigns, our commitment to road safety, and our many other grassroots programs and events, we continue to raise awareness of important issues and make a real difference in our communities.

Labatt’s Canadian Disaster Relief Program was first established in 2012 to provide safe drinking water to Canadian communities that have experienced a natural disaster. Labatt’s hometown brewery in London, Ontario periodically pauses beer production to can drinking water to be ready to help communities in times of disaster. Since the program’s launch, the Labatt Disaster Relief Program has made 24 donations in 7 provinces totaling over 1,000,000 cans of clean drinking water to residents and on-the-ground responders across Canada.

In 2020, Labatt also produced hand sanitizer as part of the national effort to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, which demonstrated the first non-water donation made under the Disaster Relief program. Labatt donated 100,000 bottles of hand sanitizer to Food Banks Canada, partners in the bar and restaurant industry, and Labatt’s own frontline employees.
