Sustainability
At Labatt, sustainability is at the core of everything we do. For over forty years, Labatt has been committed to reducing our impact on the environment. We conducted our first comprehensive environmental policy review in 1970, and today, concern for our shared planet informs everything we do. We’ve taken environmental considerations into account in our engineering design and planning, led the way in recycling, using reusable packaging as early as the 1940s, first introducing a scrap aluminum recycling system in 1981, and we repurpose and reuse millions of tonnes of spent grain and yeast as nutritious livestock feed.
Most recently, we introduced the KeelClip™ packaging system, a minimal material fastener solution made of recyclable fibre paperboard, at Labatt's London and Montreal breweries. The high-tech, automated system is the first of its kind in North America and will replace the use of plastic rings, tops and shrink film, effectively reducing the company's overall single-use plastic usage in early 2022 by nearly 152,000kg. This weight is equivalent to removing 117 mid-sized cars from the landfill. That’s why, sustainability isn’t just part of our business, it is our business.

In 2018, we introduced our 2025 Sustainability Goals, which include:
Smart Agriculture
100% of our direct farmers will be skilled, connected, and financially empowered.
Water Stewardship
100% of our communities in high stress areas will have measurably improved water availability and quality.
Circular Packaging
100% of our products will packaged in either returnable or primarily recycled content.
Climate Action
100% of our purchased electricity will be from renewable sources, resulting in a 25% reduction in CO2 emissions across our value chain.
